Choices, choices, choices

Okay. So, the "add your book to the poll idea" didn't work. Sorry guys. I am new to blogspot -- can you tell? :) It locked the poll after the voting began. The books that have been suggested are listed below. Add your suggestions and then we'll do a for real poll. This is getting to be a little crazy, isn't it? It will get better!!

Lord of the Flies
Last of the Mohicans
Atlas Shrugged
Mansfield Park
Northanger Abbey
The Sun Also Rises
Gilead by Marilynne Robinson

p.s. A thought. My frustration with my book club (not you guys) is that I feel like I've lost my ability to choose a book for myself. I'm always reading what they choose for me. So my thought is that this Strong book club thing might not be monthly. Maybe we do the first book and see how it goes. Maybe it's so fabulous that we keep going next month. Maybe it will end up that we gather a couple times a year for a Strong ladies book reading -- say maybe in February, June, and October. Or maybe some of you will keep it going at all times. So many ways this could go. How do you see it?

First things first I suppose. We just have to get started!

  1. I would add a couple of books to the poll if that is OK-these are 3 I have heard are good ....
The Whistling Season by Ivan Doig
    Gideon by Marilynne Robinson
Pilgrim's Progress by John Bunyan (I've tried to read this a few times!)

  2. I couldn't find Gideon Jan. Did you mean Gilead by Marilynne Robinson?
I added the other ones to the list.

  4. I have noticed that Ender's Shadow is on the list. Is this a follow up to Ender's Game? What about Brisingr? Is that the 3rd book in the series? Might I suggest that if we are reading a series or a follow up book that we start with the first book and then continue on. I haven't read Ender's Game since Jr. High. Maybe I am off my rocker (which most of the time I am) But I am the type that needs to start at the beginning so I can understand what is going on in books to come. Thank you Susie for being the CRO (Chief Reading Officer)!
